About Me

Hi, I'm Roxanne Patruznick.

I've been making art my whole life and have been a professional artist for over 30 years. I grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from CalArts in 1998 with a degree in film animation. I worked as an animator for awhile, before I set off on my own to pursue an independent art career. I moved to Portland, OR in 2005 and built an art community, showing my paintings in cafés and galleries and eventually opening an art booth at the Portland Saturday Market.

The travel bug

Back when I lived in Los Angeles, I always dreamed of travel. My husband and I started when we were both in college, going to tropical places on our breaks. Once we were working, we took our first European trip to Italy. I was hooked. We tried to travel at least once a year. But once we moved to Portland, we got very busy and didn’t travel internationally again for about twelve years.

In 2014 we made it back to Europe, and it was like visiting an old friend. In the time I wasn’t traveling, I continued to dream of travel. Those dreams calmed me in times of stress. It was something I looked forward to, a thing I always longed for, reached for. I devoured Anthony Bourdain’s travel show, “No Reservations,” and listened to “Travel with Rick Steves.”

The beginning of a nomadic life

In 2017 my husband and I made the decision to travel Europe as nomads. I scrambled to transition my in-person art business to online and away we went. I thought it would only be for a year, but fast forward through two elections and a pandemic and over seven years later we are still nomads. Although, I prefer the term full-time traveler to nomad.
